Abstract

Introduction: The diploma registry at the State University of Campinas (UNICAMP) was created in 1974 with the aim of registering the diplomas of students graduating from the institution, in accordance with the legislation in force at the time. Over time, the department also began to register diplomas from external faculties that did not have the autonomy to carry out this process, broadening its scope. Aim: The aim of this study is to demonstrate the evolution and impact of the diploma registry on UNICAMP's operations, as well as the adaptations made over five decades to meet changes in educational legislation and incorporate new technologies. Methodology: The methodology used included analyzing legal documents pertaining to the registration of diplomas and collecting institutional data on the volume of registrations carried out. Interviews were also conducted with employees in the sector in order to understand the transformations in registration practices and the challenges faced. Results: The results show a significant change in demand for the registry's services, both for diplomas from UNICAMP and from other institutions. The interviews revealed that adapting to new legislation, such as the digitization of processes and the implementation of modern systems, was essential to guaranteeing the efficiency and compliance of the registry. Conclusion: It can be concluded that the Registry of Diplomas plays a crucial role in validating diplomas issued not only to UNICAMP, but also to other faculties, consolidating its importance in the university's academic and administrative structure throughout its 50 years of operation.
