Abstract
Introduction: The Library of the Institute of Mathematics, Statistics, and Scientific Computing offers a 796 m² space with a welcoming architectural design, including geometric staircases connecting the mezzanines. Constantly evolving, the Library periodically reviews its technical and administrative activities, focusing on continuous development and efficient collection organization. Objective: To share experiences from the reorganization of the Library's spaces, where improvements were made to optimize the integration of public service activities and the growth of the general collection. Methodology: Through activity mapping, we identified certain tasks that could be centralized in one location. Then, we analyzed the physical space to determine whether the vacant room would meet the needs of specific activities and accommodate the collection's growth. This allowed for the reorganization of the Library's physical space. Results: The reorganization of rooms and the redistribution of spaces and collections resulted in a more efficient workflow and improved the quality of public services. The relocation of the Atelier to a room previously used by the Acquisition service increased productivity, promoted greater interaction among the Library team, and gave more visibility to its activities. With this change, the Library gained 258 square meters to expand the specialized collection, which grew by 40.17% from 2008 to 2021. These data help estimate future collection growth. Conclusion: Periodic reviews are essential for maintaining collection growth and the organizational quality of the library.
