Environmental programs for incoming employees

Abstract

Introduction: Environmental and Waste Management at UNICAMP is a fundamental action in promoting sustainability within the campus. Since 2012, GEARE (Coordination of Environmental and Waste Management) of DEPI has been dedicated to raising awareness and informing new PAEPE career civil servants in the workshop offered by the Planning and Development Division/DPD/DGRH about the importance of adhering to the university's environmental programs. Objective: The objective of this workshop was to raise awareness and train new PAEPE civil servants so that they can join and contribute effectively to UNICAMP's environmental programs. Methodology: The newcomers were given talks on the main topics and the areas responsible for environmental management at UNICAMP, such as GEARE and the Sustainability Coordination (CSUS) with its Technical Chambers (Energy, Water Resources, Waste, Environmental Education, Fauna and Flora, Smart Campus). Recyclable and non-recyclable waste is managed by the Environment Division/DMA/University Prefecture. In the faculties and institutes, the Environmental Facilitator is the local manager for environmental issues and the link with GEARE. Results: All new PAEPE career civil servants have been sensitized since 2012. In 2023 and 2024, we had 404 and 475 people, respectively. Conclusion: The Environmental and Waste Management workshop has been fundamental in integrating new PAEPE employees into UNICAMP's culture of sustainability and environmental and waste management. Over the years, the program has shown expressive results, with a continuous increase in the number of employees sensitized.
