Abstract

The book by João Quartim de Moraes, subtitled "From the column to the commune", is a continuation of the author's broad interpretation of the political phenomenon that was military intervention here in the historical process, or more openly, of the role of the Armed Forces in Brazilian politics. As the subtitle of the first volume, released in 1991, "from the republican conspiracy to the lieutenants' guerrilla", indicated the period analyzed - between the Republic and the lieutenant insurrections -, the subtitle of this second volume, "From the column to the commune", analyzes the period between the Prestes Column and the infamous "intentona" of 1935.
