Abstract
Talking about the professional and political trajectory of professor Reinaldo Antônio Carcanholo, who died on May 30, 2013, suffering from cancer, requires, in a way, an understanding of the trajectory of the left, partly revolutionary, in this country and in Latin America to the throughout the last decades of the 20th century. We say this because, with the deepening of the military dictatorship in Brazil, his destiny was to fight in the trenches of Chile, the first stop on his long Latin American journey. With the outcome of the military coup against Allende in 1973, the solution was to take refuge in Central America and study in Mexico, where he completed his doctorate under the guidance of professor Ruy Mauro Marini.
