Abstract
The moment when the author of a classic book stops living gives rise to the memory of the author and also a certain assessment of the importance of his work and its contribution to the progress of knowledge. The Marxist historian Clóvis Moura closed his eyes on December 23, 2003 in full activity - he had just, in the previous weeks, checked the proofs of what he considered his most important work, the result of three decades of research, the Dictionary of Slavery.
