Abstract
From the first global Social Forum, held at the end of January 2001 in Porto Alegre, to the last one, in Mumbai, India, the mainstream São Paulo press covered this event so grotesquely that it requires explanation. Although the spectacle of disinformation is partly linked to prejudice regarding anything that deviates from the neoliberal model, I believe that the most decisive thing is the profound insensitivity towards a new political phenomenon that requires a serious rethinking of old categories.
