Abstract
Lelita Benoit's first book surprises the reader for at least three reasons. Firstly, the author chooses as the object of her study the work of a social thinker who has not attracted, at least in recent decades, the attention of Brazilian intellectuals, most of whom are hostile, in the current phase, to positivist flags, and tend to be reticent ( there are exceptions, of course) regarding the convenience and interest of carrying out in-depth studies of Comte's work. Secondly, Lelita's intellectual investment in carrying out this task is of great proportions, rarely found in Brazilian doctoral theses (since it is one). Thirdly, the result achieved by the author is far-reaching: a systematic and in-depth analysis of Comte's thought.
