Abstract
On July 20, Ernest Mandei, a socialist activist and Marxist theorist who was one of the most important of the century, died of a heart attack in Brussels, Belgium. He was born on April 5, 1923, in Frankfurt (Germany), to a Jewish family. His father, a member of the German Communist Party, had emigrated to Belgium after the assassination of Rosa Luxemburg and Karl Liebknecht in 1919. Although he was already living in Antwerp, Ernest's mother preferred Frankfurt, which was more familiar to her, for the birth.
