Abstract

In the Presentation, signed by the organizers, we learn that the book was conceived in 2017, “in the course of the elective course ‘Capitalism and Democracy’, taught by Guilherme Leite Gonçalves in the Postgraduate Program in Law at the State University of Rio de Janeiro”, in which it was “intended [...] to raise questions about authoritarian processes that were opening up on the global stage”. The burning issue, as indicated in the title of the course, dealt with the relationship between Capitalism and Democracy, a topic that has been much discussed in the multifaceted Marxist tradition, including in Brazil, and which, both in general terms and in the Brazilian debate, evokes the controversial figure of Rosa Luxemburg. It is from this point of view that we learn about the course of the discipline and see the objective of the book we are reviewing stated, which is to “reflect on the relevance of Rosa Luxemburg's thought, just over 150 years after her birth”.
