Abstract

Released in 2023 in Brazil, Theory of Social Reproduction is a fundamental book for those who seek to understand the relationship between oppressions and capitalist accumulation. According to its organizer, Tithi Bhattacharya, the book was created to meet the need for a text that “acts as a map and guide” (p. 4) for developments in Social Reproduction Theory (SRT). In this way, the differences and divergences between the guest authors make up a body of theory that seeks to develop a theory of the totality of social relations present in capitalism. Bhattacharya is an Indian intellectual who today works as an associate professor and director of Global Studies at Purdue University (Indiana, USA), specializing in the modern history of Asia and writing mainly about colonialism, class formation, gender and Islamophobia from the point of view of Marxism.
