Abstract
Angelita Matos Souza's book is a slightly modified version of her thesis for a postdoctoral degree in Brazilian Economic History, defended at UNESP. It can be characterized in general terms as an excellent study of the problem of dependency, both in theoretical and analytical terms. In the first chapter, the author brings to light an important periodization and characterization of dependency in Brazil: traditional dependency (from formal independence to the 1930s); new dependency (from the 1950s to the 1970s); and the newest dependency (from the 1990s to the present).
