Dilma against the owners of the GDP

Abstract

Leonardo Loureiro Nunes has been an analyst at the Brazilian Development Bank (BNDES) since 2013 and served as Special Advisor to the Chief of Staff of the Presidency of the Republic during Dilma Rousseff's administration. As a result of his professional activities, he had privileged access to some of the participants in the formulation and implementation of public policies in the period immediately prior to Dilma Rousseff's removal from the Brazilian presidency. One of the most relevant and original aspects of the work in question is precisely that it weaves together the explanatory argumentation of that historical moment through the testimony of characters, some of them well-known, who experienced the entire plot analyzed. This resource, in addition to providing strong empirical support, also lends an unusual liveliness to the explanatory narratives. Nevertheless, the recurring use of statements from agents directly involved in the “event” being explained, which suggests a strong opinionated bias, does not detract from its rigor. In fact, this book originates from a doctoral thesis in economic theory defended at the Université de Paris 1 (Panthéon-Sorbonne) in 2022, under the supervision of Rémy Herrera.
