Abstract
This article analyzes the historical-political context and the impacts of the impeachment coup against the Dilma Rousseff government in Latin America, situating her ouster within the dynamics of global and regional capitalism. It argues that the 2016 coup: a) is part of a new phase of neoliberal capitalism, termed authoritarian neoliberalism, characterized by the deepening of neoliberal policies and the adoption of authoritarian forms of implementing state policy; b) constitutes one of the manifestations of Latin American neo-coupism; and c) is situated within a conjuncture of political inflection marked by the emergence of neofascist social forces and the intensification of processes of fascistization in the region.
