Dialectics and Value in Marx and the Classics of Marxism

Abstract

The purpose of this review is to present and analyze Zaira R. Vieira’s work Dialética e valor em Marx e nos clássicos do marxismo. In it, the philosopher from Minas Gerais sets out to reexamine the Grundrisse and Capital based on the most established interpretive traditions of both works in the 20th century, as well as their most fundamental categories — namely, labor power, value, surplus value, and the commodity — without neglecting the role that the notion of abstraction plays in the relationship among them. The aim here is to highlight the shift in the role of abstraction from an epistemological-methodological plane to a historical-social-ontological plane as Marx’s principal contribution in the transition from the Grundrisse to Capital.
