Visual reading of Introduction to the Stone by Rodolfo Caesar

Abstract

This work presents a visual analysis of Rodolfo Caesar's composition Introdução à Pedra using the Acousmograph software. The Acousmograph operates as a graph that transcribes time, durations, and frequencies. The analysis is inherently personal, as the visual images generated do not directly translate the sound images, but aim to represent a subjective listening experience of the piece. The resulting interpretation is not an abstract graph, but is rich with sonic and non-sonic references, which I sought to translate into forms and colors evoking objects, elements, and emotions. I propose that this approach constitutes a valid method of musical analysis, relying on the intermodality between sound and image.
