Abstract
This article aims to address the issues raised by the Cuban-American artist Ana Mendieta in the performances of the Siluetas series. To this end, we selected three photoperformances from the aforementioned series in order to analyze the representation the artist makes of herself as a woman and an immigrant, as well as the representation she constructs of the experience of the female body in society. Regarding the theoretical and methodological foundations, our investigation is grounded in performance studies by Angie Biondi (2019) and Leda Maria Martins (2021), and is developed based on discussions carried out within a research group focused on the study of visual texts.
