Raymond Williams: an introduction

Abstract

A few years ago Raymond Williams gave a talk on the future of the subject of English Literature to Oxford students, who were fighting a battle to overhaul the subject's extremely conservative methodology and syllabus at Oxford. He spoke about the new historical and theoretical challenges for established didactic programs and the established ways of teaching them, the forms of expansion and reconstruction that were necessary and feasible.
