Abstract
Charles Bettelheim’s understanding of the nature of Soviet social formation had undergone considerable variations throughout his long intellectual career. In this text, we will deal only with the conception that he developed in a more systematic and rigorous way and that remained linked to his name: the identification of the Soviet Union as a capitalist state society. First of all, we are going to expose his concept of state capitalism and then briefly show how Bettelheim conceives the process of establishing this type of capitalism in the history of the Russian Revolution.
