Abstract

In his latest book, Luiz Gonzaga Belluzzo, professor at the Institute of Economics at Unicamp, develops a more Marxist than Keynesian analysis of the metamorphoses of capital, a reading based on Marx that we will highlight here, practically ignoring Keynes and other references present in the five essays about political economy, the oppressive nature of capitalism, value generation and recent transformations that lead to the doors of barbarism. The study begins with the young Marx, “ultra-republican”, “apostle of individual autonomy” and “dedicated defender of press freedom” (p.15-18). Although he operates with the distinction between young Marx and mature Marx, the author does not seem to be interested in the idea of a rupture between one and the other (Lukács is a reference in the analysis). Certainly, the Marx of maturity occupies much more space in economics, including in addressing the incompatibility between the regime of capital and the promises of modern freedom (p.21).
