Abstract
This paper seeks to demonstrate the centrality of the concept of self-determination of nations in Lenin’s theory of imperialism. To do so, we will refer to the author’s texts on the issue, opposing his theses to those defended by Rosa Luxemburg about it. Lenin’s theory of imperialism became popular mainly through the essay Imperialism, the Highest Stage of Capitalism, which deals primarily with the economic aspects of imperialism. To revisit the debates around the self-determination of nations is fundamental to polemicize with readings marked by economism, which, despite considering themselves as subsidiaries of Lenin, end up neglecting the political aspects of his theory, including the importance of the struggle of peripheral peoples for the right to self-determination.
