Abstract
In the details of the futility and quarrels, whether for or against humanism, it is necessary to surrender to the evidence: History loves stories. The “humanism quarrel” began as calmly as possible. One day in the summer of 1963, I happened to meet Dr. Adam Schaff, a member of the Board of one of our communist parties, at a friend's house. Responsible for intellectuals within the leadership of the Polish communist party, Schaff is a philosopher known for his works on semantics and the problem of man in Marxism, and a political leader appreciated for his culture and open-mindedness.
