Abstract
Maria Orlanda Pinassi raises a suggestive thesis in her book about the magazine Niterói, published in Paris, 1836. Only two issues came out, with little circulation, under the responsibility of Gonçalves de Magalhães, Torres Homem and Araújo Porto Alegre, but the magazine is considered by critics as one of the landmarks of the beginning of romanticism in Brazil, which Pinassi questions.
