Abstract
In the early 1970s, with the aim of learning the theory and practice of anti-guerrilla warfare, hundreds of disciplined officers with command responsibility for repressive operations in their countries of origin flocked to the School of the Americas, an outpost of the United States Army in Canal Zone, Panama. The O47 course Counterinsurgency Operations on the topic Basic Concepts of Counterinsurgency in Urban Areas included the basic theory of urban guerrilla warfare: concepts, organization and patterns of insurrection, with an emphasis on the model of insurrection by Mariguella's mini-manual (sic).
