Abstract

As soon as people talk about globalization, imperialism is immediately called into question. Both are opposed, complemented, energized or at odds with each other, depending on the dynamics of the relationships, processes and structures that constitute capitalism as a global mode of production. It is not a question of imagining that one negates or nullifies the other, but of recognizing that both determine each other. However, globalism historically and theoretically subsumes imperialism. They are two distinct historical and theoretical configurations. They can be seen as two different totalities, one being more comprehensive than the other. Globalism can contain several imperialisms, as well as different regionalisms, many nationalisms and an infinity of localisms. It is a broader and more comprehensive totality, both historically and logically.
