Abstract
In the book Economy and the labor market at the end of the dictatorship, João Saboia compiles dozens of articles published in the Folha de S. Paulo newspaper between 1979 and 1984. That historical context was marked by a severe economic crisis caused by the explosion of foreign debt and runaway inflation. The national labor market, particularly in major cities, was profoundly shaken by the decline in industrial employment, unemployment, the erosion of wages, and the expansion of the informal sector, which triggered an unprecedented social crisis. A variety of public policies and government interventions necessary to address the various problems in this area were under discussion.
