MUSEOLOGICAL MANAGEMENT OF THE OBJECTS IN THE COLLECTION OF THE CENTER FOR MEMORIES OH THE FACULTY EDUCATION - FEDERAL UNIVERSITY OF RIOGRANDE DO SUL (CEME FACED/UFRGS)

Abstract

This article is a fragment of a master’s research on progress in the Graduate Program in Museology and Heritage at the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul (PPGMusPa-UFRGS) and aims to present the collection of the Center for Memories of the Faculty of Education at the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul (CEME Faced/UFRGS), analyzing its formation and acquisition process. It also seeks to identify how the museological objects in this collection are managed. It presents the institutionalization process of the Center for Memories, from the formation of the Historical Archive, better known as Memória Faced, to the changes that occurred in 2024, when this space was recognized as a Center for Memories. From 2023, the collection shifts from an exclusively archival typology, in paper format, to a collection that encompasses typologies and materials that no longer belonged solely to Archival Studies, including books and objects, requiring the use of technical and management procedures also from Library Science and Museology. It is noteworthy that the predominant form of acquisition is donation, and among the collection typologies are, for example, school furniture; clothing (uniforms); books, documents, banners, photographs, wooden ruler (palmatória), and bell (sineta). It is concluded that the Center for Memories understands the importance of qualified management, aiming to apply museological practices related to the management of three-dimensional objects, even if in embryonic stage.
