Abstract
The article briefly presents a research project focused on the experience of Nature and
the pedagogical potential in Basic Education, specifically in the first and second cycles.
Here we reflect on children's reduced contact with outdoor natural spaces and their
exploration, a situation that has been increasing sharply in Portugal, with some of the
factors that lead to the successive loss of this contact being mentioned. We seek to
understand, based on international and national studies, the time spent in outdoor
pedagogical activities, in which recreation appears as the main element of the
relationship with the outside world; data on pedagogical activities carried out abroad;
and the type of contacts with Nature. This research also brings together the study of
three pedagogical projects, namely: “Outdoor School Day”, “Invisible Limits: Education
in Nature” and “Escola da Floresta Bloom” which address, in Portugal, bringing
children with the natural space as essential for cognitive, motor and social
development. The aim is to understand the reasons behind the creation of these
projects, what their objectives, programs and results are, evaluating potential uses or
improvements, within the laboratory scope of the research to be developed in the
Doctorate in Artistic Education.
