Worlds in collapse & contemporary vanities

Abstract

The text reflects on a series of watercolors – Primavera Negra – created between 2020 and 2022. At the same time, it highlights the connection of this work within the broader context of contemporary artists who address the theme of life's fragility and ephemerality; establishing complex relationships of continuity and rupture with the pictorial genre of Vanitas from the 17th century and Memento Mori from classical antiquity. Part of the reflection on the watercolors draws on Martin Heidegger's contributions, understanding that, in forming relationships, man “builds worlds,” and these fragile worlds carry their share of poetry and tragedy.
