The art and the demon of aesthetics

Abstract

The text addresses some of the impasses and contradictions that accompany art from modernism to what is now understood as postmodernity or postmodern art, understanding that they may be faces of the same coin. Drawing on the thinking of Giorgio Agamben, who discusses the crisis of art by dialoguing with Kant, Heidegger and Nietzsche, we seek to reflect on how art and artists have offered answers and through their works generated doubts about their possibilities of existence and survival in scope of culture. Can art save itself? Will you survive your own shadow? Is it possible to establish some relation between art and truth? Urgent issues that do not have immediate solutions, but which need to be addressed if we still believe in something we call art.
