Kitsch, aesthetic reminiscences and Jeff Koons

Abstract

It is Kitsch, since it is excessive as to the emotional argument in cultural praxis, by adaptations, by making art a product of consumption, which coincides with the sacralization of art and leads to aesthetics, whether in literature, painting or music, reflection about Kitsch today. In this regard, the Hegelian philosophy is added to the sociocultural reflections of Theodor W. Adorno, Walter Benjamin and, more recently, Pierre Bourdieu, Niklas Luhmann and Konrad Paul Liessmann for aesthetic research on the Kitsch concept. And to the complex subject, above all, the relation between emotion and art is considered, either the expressiveness, the meaning or the ideal of freedom associated with what art suggests is more attractive: beauty and its reverse. What indicates to be opportune the analysis of the forms by which the Kitsch manifests, by the style generally accepted, variable in the time and by the esthetic experience to the encounter of the contemporary art.
