Abstract

The actions of "Sensitive Territories" in the Jequiá mangrove emerged from the question "What can we learn from the mangrove to (survive) in the Anthropocene?". These actions took place a few months before the global outbreak of SARS-CoV-2, when records of shortness of breath were not yet as numerous as they would later become. The pandemic virus was already circulating globally in January 2020, when an open lab was held at the Z-42 gallery, with the epidemic breaking out in Brazil in March of that year. The virus was not yet sensitive to us, the participants, nor could we imagine the series of events that would affect us on several scales and cause the death of approximately 700,000 people in Brazil, according to official data. Inspired by Mbembe's concept of brutality in the Anthropocene, the actions carried out in the Sensitive Territories project explored the unique environment of the mangrove and its lessons on air scarcity.
