Abstract
The book consists of 12 lectures by the philosopher, delivered between 1994 and 2009. It is striking that all these lectures share the common thread of the search for the emancipation of marginalized peoples. This liberation, for the author, must necessarily be committed and collective, as there is no revolutionary struggle for liberation from oppression and sexual freedom without collective solidarity. Davis highlights in her lectures how racism structures the foundations of society and distorts the meaning of freedom and democracy. Since racism is what structures social relations, it is important to understand that, unlike the colonial period or even the 20th century, it presents itself today in different socially veiled forms, but evidently without legal support.
