Resumen
El movimiento sindical estadounidense ha mostrado recientemente signos de renovación con (a) el resurgimiento de la sindicalización en sectores menos organizados, como la comida rápida y la educación superior, (b) la implementación de estrategias innovadoras de abajo hacia arriba para fortalecer la organización sindical y (c) la expansión de las reivindicaciones sindicales más allá de las cuestiones corporativistas. Esta renovación se ha debido a un mercado laboral favorable a los trabajadores, combinado con una ola de descontento de los trabajadores en la era pospandémica y un clima jurídico más favorable al movimiento sindical durante la administración Biden. Pero, a pesar de los avances logrados en este período, el movimiento sindical estadounidense no ha ampliado su poder cuantitativamente y ahora se enfrenta a retos existenciales bajo el régimen antisindicalista de Trump. Para que los sindicatos estadounidenses sobrevivan a lo que sin duda será un período difícil, postulamos que es necesario ampliar las prácticas de organización eficaces a nivel nacional, explorar nuevas posibilidades de acción colectiva deben reforzarse las protecciones legales para los sindicatos a nivel subnacional y deben construirse frentes populares que vinculen al movimiento sindical con otros movimientos sociales a fin de proteger a todos los trabajadores del impacto de las políticas de Trump.
