Abstract
For more than two decades, popular culture groups based in the city of Campinas, in São Paulo, have dedicated themselves to practicing and researching so-called Afro-Brazilian expressions with the aim of reviving the rural and black memory of the times of slavery present in the history of the region, thus contrasting with the modern and technological scenario with which the city is commonly associated. Taking this context as an ethnographic field, this article proposes a reflection that relates the body and collective memory in the context of these cultural manifestations. To this end, it makes use of a theoretical compendium centered on issues such as the body, memory and performance from ethnomusicological and anthropological studies, seeking a synthesis that can contribute theoretically to investigations into this expressive universe.
