Abstract
In Portugal, festivals involving "local" or "traditional" masks have been growing in recent years, progressively integrating themselves in new tourist and heritage circuits. In this visual essay, we tried to show some moments of these parties, focusing on the celebration process, contributing to think about the peculiar position in which they find themselves in the contemporary world: between the reproduction of inherited heritages and their (re)invention.
