Research in art and anthropology: an experience of interdisciplinary collaboration

Abstract

This text deals with an interdisciplinary research experience between anthropology and visual arts, in the context of an art and education program in Santiago, Chile. In it, we will examine a set of questions that emerge from the joint work between art and anthropology, distinguishing different levels of the problem. In the first place, we will dwell on the conceptual starting points that guide the study in question, giving an account of the main ethnographic findings and reflections that underlie the interdisciplinary work. Secondly, we will inquire into the epistemological dimension of this collaborative research, discussing the role of each of these disciplines in the project, and the particular ways in which they feed back into each other. Finally, we will approach the problem from the methodological question, exploring the concrete tools that make it possible to advance along this joint path.
