Abstract
In a text published in Redbook magazine – a North American publication aimed at women – on 1975, anthropologist Margaret Mead addresses the problem of bisexuality. In dialogue with the magazine's audience, the author proposes the recognition of this sexuality as a normal expression of human behaviour. She also highlights the historical resistance to open dialogue on the subject and notes the lack of a bisexual liberation movement, and points to the importance of overcoming prejudices to understand the human capacity to "love both sexes", citing historical examples and ancient societies. Mead concludes by defending freedom of choice in relationships and the need for respect and dignity for all, in line with the contemporary movement to recognise the uniqueness of each individual.
