Affirmative Actions and African Studies: audiovisual as an extensionist cultural action

Abstract

This work refers to the extensionist action of a cultural nature and affirmative actions with impacts on the curricula and historiography of Santa Catarina, developed by the Nucleus of Afro-Brazilian Studies (NEAB) of the State University of Santa Catarina (Udesc) from the partnership with Neabi/Faculdade Municipal de Palhoça, Laborei/Universidade do Estado de Santa Catarina and GEMPA/Grupo de Estudos Gender and Empowerment of Women in Palhoça, resulting from the I, II and III Cycles of Feminist Studies Miriam Maria Maria, aimed at the academic and general community , with the aim of sharing studies about realized black and decolonial feminisms. Based on the Campus da Cultura Udesc 2021-2022 announcement launched by the Dean of Extension, Culture and Community (Proex), the audiovisual documentary is produced in the form of a short film about the experiences of four women from the greater Florianópolis region who work actively in their communities in the areas of culture, religiosity and public policy. Entitled “Matripotency: the care revolution on the island of magic”, the short highlights the dimension of care present in these practices, whose understanding and reflection was covered in the light of the Yoruba cosmovision of matripotence, developed by the Nigerian sociologist Oyèronké Oyewùmí from the publication of his work "The Invention of Women: Making an African Sense of Western Gender Discourses". The result of the studies and the audiovisual production enables a poetics of resistance based on the deepening of knowledge about the dynamics of gender in African societies and decoloniality.
