Abstract
This article analyzes the relationship between technological racism and solid waste management in Brazil, focusing on glass sludge, a residue from the crushing of glass materials often classified as having no commercial value. The study proposes a counter-colonial approach, shifting the narrative of victimization of recyclable material collectors towards the recognition of their tacit knowledge, sorting practices, and contributions to environmental education. These practices, developed in the daily lives of cooperatives, demonstrate that they are producers of knowledge and social innovation, capable of building fairer and more sustainable alternatives than those imposed by the dominant technological logic, exemplified by the use of compactor trucks that mix and compromise the quality of recyclables. The results show that valuing centrality means recognizing the power of community practices that challenge disposability and affirm social and environmental dignity
