Black female musicalities in brazilian Rap: challenging violence and renewing resistance.

Abstract

This article presents aspects of narratives constructed by black women in Brazilian rap to challenge gendered racism. Rap ​​is the musical genre that is part of Hip-Hop, a cultural movement with an Afro-diasporic origin. This thematic delimitation aims to contribute to the debate about the musical production of black female Hip-Hop artists, especially female rappers and DJs. To achieve this contribution, we highlight the intersection between color/race, gender and social class that exists in Brazilian black female rap and is thematized by black female artists of this musical genre. Therefore, this text demarcates analyses, mainly, of narratives of black female rap singers, taking into account the analytical perspective of intersectionality in the theory of Black feminisms. These analyses derive from research that uses methodological results from fieldwork, carried out in the cities of Maringá (PR) and Sarandi (PR), and theoretical results. This empirical and theoretical research brings reflections and revelations about the singers who, in their compositions, offer criticisms against social oppressions articulated by the holders of hegemonic power and, in addition, create definitions and images of Black women based on their ancestral black knowledge. This allows us to situate these singers as agents in a collective feminine, Black and peripheral action.
