Abstract
Firma o ponto, filho de fé (24'), produced in 2019, opens the doors of the temple and invites us to look at Umbanda in its internal aspects through the lenses of its musical making, the sung ponto. Filmed in the Tenda de Umbanda Estrela Matutina, in the city of Campinas (SP), the documentary starts from interviews with the priest, the children of the house and anthropologists, exploring the intimate relationship between singing as a ritualistic practice and the Umbanda cosmology. The recorded accounts also emphasize that the community on scene and its sacred chants preserve through music strong elements of its trajectory, tradition, and religious identity. Ethnographically inspired and the result of independent research started by Giovanna Colussi in 2018 about the theme music and religion, Firma o ponto was awarded in the Best Documentary Short Film category of the VI Brazil International Film Festival (2020) and participated in official selections of festivals and platforms such as Curta Pinhais (8th Festcine, 2020), Corvo de Gesso 2020 (national documentary), Cine Tornado 2020 (ethnographic documentary), Taguatinga Film Festival (2020) and In-Edit TV Brasil (2020).
