Abstract

This visual essay reflects the territorialization process of the Kiriri do Acré people in southern Minas Gerais, focusing on their relationship with the jurema plant (Mimosa tenuiflora) as the axis of their resistance and the center of their spirituality. Through eight original drawings, produced with oil pastel, coconut oil, and graphite, this work documents the migration from Bahia to the green land (terra verde) of Caldas, where the jurema establishes itself significantly in the face of the new climate and new contexts in southern Minas Gerais. The graphic narrative ranges from the entrance of the village and the wattle and daub (taipa) constructions to ritual moments such as the smudging (defumação) and the Toré. By visually translating speeches and contexts observed in the field, the drawings act as tools for reflection on the production of territory and the coexistence with other-than-human beings. The essay invites an immersion into the Kiriri cosmology, revealing how the J/jurema acts as a protector and the guiding thread of the collective life of this indigenous people on Minas Gerais.
