Abstract
The text discusses the impact and effects of the Fine Arts Exhibition held at the School of Arts and Crafts in Rio de Janeiro in 1882. Victor Meirelles, Angelo Agostini, Augusto Rodrigues Duarte, José Maria de Medeiros and Georg Grimm participated in the exhibition, among other painters. In the painting section, 408 works were exhibited, of which 286 were oil paintings, besides works in drawing, etching, gouache, sculptures and photographs. The event got plenty of attention from the press mainly due to the works of Grimm presented on the occasion.
