Abstract

At Rio Grande city, Rio Grande do Sul State, the merchant Carlos Guilherme Rheingantz, in November 1873, founds the Cia. União Fabril (ex-Rheingantz) – the first at Rio Grande do Sul. The company, along the years, established an habitational politics. The dwellings done for the workers since 1884 are buildings that are present, still today, in the composition of the urban landscape. The analysis of the architectural production of this Housing Industry was done through a comparison of a located electric company in the outskirts of Paris, in Seine-Saint-Denis, the thermoelectrial of Saint-Ouen (France), belonging
currently to the EDF (Electricité de France). Get know the builders’ visual culture of that time and the dialogue that they established with the dwellings betwen Cia. Union Fabril in Brazil and Saint-Ouen in France. Through this search of comparisons, it could be enlarged the works in reference which is transported in this study of case.
