Abstract

This essay addresses some works within the Indianist theme, made in Brazil in the 19th century, specially the works of the sculptor Rodolfo Bernardelli (Guadalajara, Mexico, 1852 – Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, 1931). I have attempted to understand the meaning of these pieces within the period’s visual cultural background and within the artist’s long trajectory, researching a plausible dialogue between international contemporary sculpture and painting.
