Abstract

This article, resulted of a master, intends to show a personage of Brazilian life cultural in the second half of century XIX. Although Angelo Agostini, figure on which we will speak, either many times cited in periodic of history, and until exists caricature prizes exhibiting its name, still has very what to search, therefore its references are most of the time superficial. One of the challenges found was exactly to recoup the identity of Agostini and to know a little of its work of art critic. While a man of the press, with an important vehicle of communication that was the Revista Illustrada, the opinions of this man had certainly had a great weight in the artistic debates, mainly for its opposition to the Academy of Art.
