Abstract

This guide presents the documentation found in the funds of the Académie Julian, deposited in the National Archives of France (ANF). Supported by the inventory provided by the ANF and by face-to-face consultations with the archives, the aim was to classify the records by documentary typology, guaranteeing the organic nature of the documentation and facilitating a holistic understanding of this institutional archive. Between the mid-19th and 20th centuries, the Académie Julian, a renowned private drawing, painting, and sculpture school in Paris, attracted artists from all over the world, and particularly from Brazil. For this reason, the guide indicates, as far as possible, in which records it is possible to locate information about Brazilian artists who attended the institution.
