Resumo
O presente artigo tem como principal objetivo analisar o surgimento da veneração a Maria, a qual permeou, inicialmente, do século 2 ao 5, como uma demonstração de devoção popular. Tal veneração estava alocada em fronteiras culturais expressas por meio de uma interpretatio tipicamente cristã, sendo esta manifestação de piedade empreendida pelas devotas cristãs, monges e gentios. Os documentos propostos são de grande valia para se entender a hibridização do culto, bem como a domesticação da piedade mariana pela ekklesia ortodoxa.
