Abstract
This paper discusses the role of George Moore (1852-1933) in the consolidation of Impressionism in England. Not widely known in Brazil, the Irish author took part in the bohemian circle of the French Impressionists and, defying the English establishment, fostered the movement in London. In this process, he was highly engaged in the promotion of the New English Art Club, a society of artists who called themselves “London Impressionists”. Against the hostility to the group, Moore comes on the scene as an art critic who, championing the indistinct forms of the new painting, verbally recreates the sense of movement and frenzy of modern life.
